Hi my dear friends! I’m glad to welcome you back in my blog. On Friday evening, 13th of July, I went on my evening healing by visiting a certain place that is worth to visit. So I decided to visit Cemeti. Cemeti? What is it? Why is it? How is it? Pay your attention on my writing below yassss
What is it?
Cemeti is like an art gallery in Yogyakarta and known before as Cemeti Gallery then the name changed into Cemeti Art House. Now, the name is Cemeti – Institute for Art and Society located in DI Panjaitan Street No.41, Mantrijeron, Yogyakarta. To make it simpler to read, I’ll only type ‘Cemeti’ for the rest. So guys, basically Cemeti is the oldest platform for contemporary arts since 1988 in Jogja. This place provides a space for artists who deign to improve and display their arts which is founded by artists, Nindityo Adipurnomo and Mella Jaarsma. This institute has aimed to highlight the art movement in various art communities in Yogyakarta to solve the social and politic problems through arts. It’s cool, isn’t?
Why is it?
It’s a pretty hard question haha. Why Cemeti? Why arts? It is because I’ve heard couples of time about this Cemeti in some arts event, so I was like, okay nice information, I’ll go there someday. I made it (It’s not that glorious tho wkwk). Jogja is like a heaven of arts. There are many communities and platforms that discuss, manage, improve, and develop arts. Why arts? It is like my finery, something that beautifes my life. Arts can be many things, but the point is not simply the form of it, but also the meaning inside those arts. Uww feeling so artsy now. Nope. It’s not like that. I’m not an artist, but I do care of arts. Next!
How is it?
This one is important gaess. Cemeti is in collaboration with three curators whom are Akane Nakamura (Japan), Helly Minarti (Indonesia), and LIM How Ngean (Malaysia) creating an event entitled “Jejak-旅 Tabi Exchange: Wandering Asian Contemporary Performance”. This event is an exchange platform for contemporary art performances of Asian artists to support their artworks and to exchange idea among artists which will be held in 2 cities each year, and this year, the first year is in Yogyakarta from 13-27 July 2018 and Kuala Lumpur 23-30 September 2018.
The series of the event are various. There will be:
- The exhibition of dance archive in Cemeti, Ace House, and Ruang Mes 56
- Masterclass in Concert Hall Pasca Sarjana ISI
- Panel Discussion in Langgeng Art Foundation
- Performance Lecture in Cemeti
- Showcase and Open Studio in Artist’s Studio and Cemeti
If you are interested, then join the event. And for further information, you may check https://www.instagram.com/cemeti.institute/
