Celebrating ‘World Radio Day 2019’ in Yogyakarta

Some people grow up with a radio. Radio as a medium of information, entertainment, and education becomes a best friend for certain people. On Wednesday, 13th February people celebrate ‘World Radio Day’. This writing tells you how people who love radio in Yogyakarta celebrate ‘World Radio Day 2019’. I hope that you enjoy, and be the one of that certain people who love radio 🙂

In the morning around 8 am, there was a gathering consisting of college students in Yogyakarta who had submitted their essays about radio development according to their own knowledge. They met each other for the first time to share their own definition of radio. Then they were invited to take a walk in a radio station at Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), the state radio network of Indonesia. That place showed the students how radio collects the information, process it, and transfers the information to the listener.

In the discussion session, the students learnt new things from the radio experts. Mrs. Indah, one of the RRI’s crew said that radio is something auditive or auditory which means that people listen to it at a glance, and the sound that came from the radio could go through the listeners’ mind. Mr. Aji, the event initiator also said that radio is a personal thing, it is not only used as an entertainment stuff but it also serves information and education because radio becomes a knowledge management instrument.

The last agenda was having a talk-show on air. The students told what they did that day to celebrate World Radio Day 2019. What did they do then? I tell you this:

We realize that radio becomes the most effective media to share and to ignite information, it builds what so called a theater of mind and enters our subconscious part of mind. The radio unite us to discuss and to solve things that matter in the society. So keep listening to radio! 🙂
